Précontraint TX30 equips the new stadium in Lyon
Xtrem TX30-V
Architect: populous
Urban planning: Intens-Cité
Implementation: ACS Production
Serge Ferrari materials were selected for various applications, including the stadium's membrane roof, made from 30,000m² of Précontraint TX30, the latest flexible composite from Serge Ferrari, flags made from Soltis FT 381, blinds made from Soltis 92 and interior fittings, including wall coverings and upholstery of the armchairs and sofas in the lounges and dressing rooms.
This choice was supported by Eric Merand – Construction Director of Olympique Lyonnais
A major innovation, Précontraint TX30
PRECONTRAINT TX 30 is the latest generation flexible composite by Serge Ferrari, specially developed to guarantee a lifetime of more than 30 years for the roofs of monumental structures.
The CROSSLINK formulation of this material represents a technological breakthrough, inspired by EPOXY type cross-linked treatments, previously used only on rigid materials. Its long-term resistance to oxidation preserves its structural and aesthetic performance for several decades. This development has involved a strictly innovative process, validated by global experts in the photo-ageing of polymers.
Without losing any of the benefits of flexible composites, such as light weight, flexibility and translucency, PRECONTRAINT TX 30 now enables light-weight architecture to claim unrivalled durability.
A huge challenge
The stadium roof proved to be a real challenge. Roofs are traditionally curved, to resist the effects of bad weather, such as the weight of snow, wind, etc. However, the architectural design of Populous imposed facetted shapes, timeless in terms of style, but extremely demanding in terms of tension control. For this project, Serge Ferrari's PRECONTRAINT technology for the production of flexible composites proved invaluable, offering the dimensional stability and homogeneity necessary for the material to enable this rigorous linear geometry.
"The Serge Ferrari Group appeared to be an obvious choice, since its skills, experience, international leadership are well known. We are delighted to associate a major contributor to the reputation and economic development of our region with the success of the Grand Stade project, promoting local expertise and participating in its economic dynamism."
