Retractable Roof for the Mrągowo Amphitheater
ABOUT
The Mrągowo Amphitheater, located on the shores of Lake Czos in Poland, is an iconic venue for cultural and musical events. With a seating capacity of 5,100, it provides an ideal setting for large open-air gatherings. To protect both the audience and the stage from adverse weather conditions, an innovative textile roof was installed. This ambitious project sets new technical and architectural standards. The installation covers a total 4,000 m² of textile membranes, spread across three levels. A primary steel arch structure serves as the main support, extending over both the stage and spectator stands.
The project features a total surface of 4,000 m² of textile membranes arranged in three distinct levels. A primary steel structure acts as the load-bearing framework, spanning over the stage and seating areas.
One of the key highlights of this roofing system is its modularity: two 400 m² lateral sections can be opened independently and stored under protective canopies. This flexibility ensures optimal adaptation to changing weather conditions and event-specific requirements.
Innovative Technical Implementation
The double-curved shape of the central arch posed a unique challenge in terms of both design and mechanical movement. A pioneering solution enables the membranes to move smoothly along the primary cables, with the mobile sections overlapping seamlessly—eliminating the need for additional suspension cables. This innovative approach minimizes the number of required supports, giving the structure a lightweight appearance while ensuring maximum stability.
High-Performance Membranes
For this roofing system, Tenseo Advanced 1302 S2 and Flexlight 702 S2 membranes were selected for their outstanding qualities: durability, color uniformity, light transmission and ease of maintenance.
The retractable roof of the Mrągowo Amphitheater stands as a remarkable example of modern tensile architecture. By combining functionality, aesthetic design, and cutting-edge technology, the roofing system provides optimal weather protection while maintaining high flexibility for event use. This project sets new benchmarks in the field of tensile architecture, elegantly demonstrating the possibilities offered by modern engineering.
