Soltis Veozip for indoor solar protection at National Communication Centre for Science and Technology
ABOUT
The new National Communication Centre for Science and Technology (NCCFSAT) is a vast new development located in Beijing, China, which links to the China Science and Technology Museum via a connecting corridor. Spanning 23,000 sqm, the project was designed by the AVIC Planning Institute and built by China Construction First Group Construction & Development Co.
Symbolic architecture
From the outside, the building is characterised by the contrasting elegant roundness and sharp straight lines of its outer envelope. The design team based their project on the idea of ‘a dialectical reflection on heaven and earth’, which informed the architecture’s layout and shape, as well as symbolism.
Indeed, the building’s design was developed by its architect to carry clear meaning. The billowing curves suggest the notion of ‘dissemination, while the serrated aspect of the façade represents the steady progress of science and technology.
The outer envelope in particular is distinguished by folding lines produced by the vertical junction of aluminium and glass panels. This results in a subtle play of shadow and light inside the building, heightening visitors’ experience as they make their way through the halls and corridors.
Soltis Veozip for sunproofing
For an indoor shading system that would adapt to the building’s serrated façade, the design team chose to work with Serge Ferrari Group’s Soltis Veozip fabric. The material is assembled on an FTS system by French manufacturer Somfy, to guarantee smart and agile management of light and heat inside the centre.
Combining high performance with elegance, Soltis Veozip delivers strong protection against the sun’s heat, blocking up to 96% of UV rays, while high transparency ensures optimal visibility to outside and privacy inside. In addition, its matt woven finish and hemp-based composition make for a natural, textile-like feel, bringing added comfort to areas open to the public.
Five colour families were developed specifically for Serge Ferrari’s Soltis Veozip by Anne Emery, Head of the trend consulting firm Aujourd’hui Ou Mardi. They were curated to pair seamlessly with colours most frequently used for aluminium framing and to reflect current trends shaping the individual housing and commercial real estate markets. These five families — Tropical, Raw, Elegant, Pure and Spice — perfectly complement any style.
It should be noted that Soltis Veozip is specifically optimised for outdoor ZIP-system window and pergola shading. Used on a pergola for instance, it will contribute to creating a welcoming and comfortable cocoon, shielding occupants from the wind and heat without blocking out views to outside.
