ABOUT

An Original Concept

This concept of the hut, which inspires the name of the Festival, serves as a starting point for a conversation among architects, artists, designers, and landscape architects on various questions: how can we create environmentally respectful architectural structures? What sustainable home solutions can we develop for the future?

The six projects of 2024 were specially designed for the Festival by international collectives of architects, builders, and students.

Built in a few weeks, these temporary structures contrast with the usual tranquility of the gardens. Made of wood or recycled materials, they blend harmoniously into the landscape and vegetation. Walking from structure to structure allows visitors to rediscover the gardens of the Villa Medici from a new perspective.

The Forum of the Ruins

This project, created by pratique architecture & fanum architecture, is the winner of the Festival des cabanes of the Sources of Lake Annecy for the Villa Medici.

This hut, measuring 12.5 x 6.25 x 5 meters is deeply inspired by Roman architectural heritage. Drawing on remnants and ruins, it reinterprets the principles and elements of Roman architecture, particularly the forum. Beyond its architectural form, the forum symbolizes a space for free exchange, socialization, and debate, whether virtual or physical. Installed in a square of the gardens of the Villa Medici, this construction, made of maritime pine wood and textile membrane, resembles a temple and utilizes a variety of interior and exterior spaces, allowing visitors to gather or find solitude. The Forum of the Ruins thus encourages visitors to explore and embrace the philosophical potential of the hut.

Lightweight and flexible fabrics

To equip this hut with light curtains and velums, the choice fell on Soltis fabrics, renowned for their suppleness and lightness as well as their refined design. The micro-perforated Soltis 92 fabric offers optimal solar protection while allowing air to circulate. Soltis Veozip stands out for its textile-like texture and very high transparency. These materials enhance the space, creating a harmony between aesthetics and functionality.
