The Aqua Mekong cruise ship has been equipped with a new shade sail made in Tenseo Advanced 1202 S2 by Serge Ferrari Group, designed, manufactured, and installed by the Vietnamese company Flexiiform.

A floating luxury hotel on the Mekong

Sailing along the tranquil waters of the Mekong River, the Aqua Mekong cruise ship offers a unique travel experience between Vietnam and Cambodia. As a true floating palace with around twenty high-end suites, the Aqua Mekong is a reference in luxury river tourism in Southeast Asia.

For nearly a decade, the vessel featured a shade sail at the bow to protect the outdoor area dedicated to the pool and passenger relaxation. Exposed to the region’s challenging weather conditions—high humidity, intense sun, etc.—the structure suffered premature wear, compromising both its appearance and protective properties.

To address this, the ship operator commissioned Flexiiform to deliver a brand-new shade structure that would meet the high technical and aesthetic standards expected aboard the Aqua Mekong.

A technical challenge met by Flexiiform

Founded in 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Flexiiform brings together architects and engineers to offer end-to-end services—from design and 3D modeling to engineering, fabrication, and on-site installation. Specialized in lightweight structures, the company handles high-end projects as well as public and commercial space developments.

The goal was to replace the existing membrane with a durable and elegant solution that could withstand the local climate and temperature variations. Flexiiform’s project team designed a new inverted funnel-shaped canopy, combining modern aesthetics with structural lightness. From the industrial drawing to workshop fabrication, the entire process was managed in-house. The final installation was completed in just one day to minimize operational disruption for the vessel.

Tenseo advanced 1202 S2 membrane: Performance, reliability, and aesthetics

To meet the project’s demands, Flexiiform selected Serge Ferrari’s Tenseo Advanced 1202 S2 technical fabric. Developed with Précontraint technology, this membrane offers excellent dimensional stability and high resistance to UV rays and harsh weather conditions. Exceptionally strong and low-maintenance, its sleek, modern look makes it ideal for creating long-lasting structures that blend seamlessly into sophisticated architectural designs. Its technical characteristics make it a perfect choice for outdoor roofing, shading structures, and sports facility coverings.

A total of 138 m² of membrane was used for the project, made possible by Flexiiform’s expertise—offering Aqua Mekong passengers a renewed and enhanced cruising experience.
