ABOUT
Creating a Pleasant Experience with Smart Solar Shading
Located in the heart of Roermond, Café Bistro Chez Margot is a cozy, inviting venue where ambiance matters as much as cuisine. With a stunning glass roof overhead, the space is bathed in natural light—but that also meant facing the challenges of heat and glare.
To ensure a comfortable dining environment for customers while preserving the venue’s elegant look, the architectural and technical teams turned to Serge Ferrari’s Soltis 92. Known for its exceptional durability and performance, Soltis 92 was the ideal choice to deliver thermal comfort without compromising on style.
Design Excellence with Technical Precision
The architectural vision was to install solar shading screens that follow the same angle as the glass roof beams, creating a clean and harmonious look. This minimalist approach not only enhances the space’s visual appeal but also maximizes shading efficiency. Each screen—crafted in custom shapes including trapezoids and triangles—was expertly manufactured by Guillaume Janssen to integrate perfectly into the architectural structure.
To achieve this level of precision, the solution required technical adaptations such as a special central cord system and custom pulleys mounted at 45 degrees to maintain tension and alignment. These bespoke systems were then installed by Gehlen Zonwering, ensuring a flawless execution on site. Soltis 92 rose to the challenge, providing the mechanical strength and flexibility necessary to realize such an intricate solution.
Soltis 92 stood out as the only fabric capable of meeting the dual demands of complex geometries and sustainable solar protection:
- High dimensional stability, allowing perfect tension even on sloped and asymmetrical surfaces
- UV protection and thermal comfort, significantly improving the customer experience
- Aesthetic integration, with a clean white finish (2044) that complements the café’s modern interior
The result is a perfectly tailored sun protection solution that integrates harmoniously with the building’s structure and greatly enhances the comfort of its visitors. Thanks to the performance of Soltis 92, customers can enjoy a cool, pleasant atmosphere throughout the summer season—regardless of the intensity of sunlight.
Sustainability at the Core
This project reflects Serge Ferrari’s commitment to sustainability. By using long-lasting materials like Soltis 92, building owners can extend the life of architectural features and reduce energy consumption, all while creating better environments for people to enjoy.
